South Africans are well known for their love of the outdoors. Whether it’s a beach braai, music in the park, or a garden picnic, we love to get and about and enjoy our (mostly) stunning weather.
The only problem with being outdoors is that you might find yourself without the comforts of home, such as seating or a table to put your food on. But, with a bit of planning and the right equipment, you can quickly overcome these challenges and get back to enjoying yourself.
HERE ARE OUR 5 MUST-HAVES FOR ANY OUTDOOR EVENT
Outdoor events lend themselves to sitting on the ground (pack that big picnic blanket!) but that’s not always the most comfortable choice – especially if you have elderly guests in your party. If you’re going to an event, take along some fold-up chairs. If you’re hosting at home, plastic chairs are a great option for the outdoors. They’re lightweight (making them easy to move around) and can get wet if they’re left out overnight. And, don’t forget kiddies’ chairs for the little ones.
2. A TABLE
Whether it’s for snacks, drinks, or card games, a collapsible plastic table is a must-have for any outdoor event. Plastic means it will be easy to move around and clean off once it’s been used. Try a large one for at home and a coffee table version for when you’re out – these are great for camping too!
3. STORAGE OPTIONS
Taking food and toys along to your event? Use a few sturdy crates, preferably with handles or go with a plastic picnic basket or shopping basket – good for keeping food clean and safe or perfect for carrying your little ones’ toys around (and gathering them up afterwards). Taking along glass wine glasses? Get a wine glass crate? It’ll keep your glasses safe and accessible, and save you the time of having to wrap up each glass before transporting it.
4. SOMEWHERE TO DUMP THE RUBBISH
Having a braai or garden party at home? Remove the hassle of going in and out the house to dump your rubbish by using an outside plastic wheelie bin. They’re super-convenient because you can wheel them out to the curb on rubbish day as well. Out and about? Sometimes you might not be able to find a rubbish bin straight away. Take along your own plastic bags and tidy up after yourselves as you go.
5. TOYS AND GAMES
Even if you’re at an event with entertainment (like a birthday party), if you have children, it’s a good idea to bring along some toys for their entertainment. Plastic toys are a great choice as they are easy to clean and suitable for the outdoors. Think buckets and spades for the beach or plastic balls and blocks for the garden.
Plastic is the business when it comes to easy access, storage, and lightweight convenience wherever you are!
