We’ve all heard the good news: eating dark chocolate daily is good for your heart, boosts brain power, and may even help you combat sleep deprivation. Yes, dark chocolate has compounds that offer health benefits and can be enjoyed without guilt, even on a daily basis. But the portion size matters.
Impress a date, your family, the office or the love of your life with these delicious homemade chocolates. Use this recipe as a base, and go from there. Experiment and add some fruits, nuts or more chocolate to make it more exciting.
Using Stevia for Sweetness
These homemade healthy chocolate bars are super quick and easy to make. They’re vegan, paleo and are sugar free. The secret is to use liquid stevia (you can get it at most good health shops and online). Stevia is natural, made from plant extract so it contains none of the harmful chemicals found in other sweeteners on the market. It also won’t affect your blood sugar levels or raise insulin levels.
If you can’t or don’t like stevia, you can substitute it with another sweetener of your choice, like honey or maple syrup.
What flavour do you prefer, mint, orange? You don’t need to add a lot, just add a few drops of the essential oil of your choice, and taste your mixture to determine if you need to add more.
Choose your Moulds

The type of coconut oil you use, for example, greatly changes the flavor of your chocolate.
Ingredients for Healthy Homemade Chocolate
½ cup coconut oil
½ cup cocoa powder
Liquid stevia to taste
Essential Oils to taste
Pinch of salt
If your coconut oil is in a solid state, melt it over low heat until liquid. Then stir in cocoa powder until well blended.
Add stevia liquid or other sweetener of choice
You can optionally add in several drops of an essential oil like mint essential oil or orange essential oil for added flavour.
Pour the mixture into silicone chocolate moulds and refrigerate until solid.
Remove the chocolates from the moulds and store in the refrigerator until eating.
- Store in a container the fridge or freezer.
- Try adding crushed nuts, shredded coconut, frozen blueberries or lemon oil for a different flavour.
