With gardening trends changing quickly, it feels impossible to keep up and one can easily get bored of the landscaping, plants, or general décor their garden seem to have. Here are some tips and tricks.

Sometimes, we landscape our gardens when we first move in and completely forget about it for years. Either way, gardens are crying out for some tlc.

HERE ARE 5 SIMPLE TRICKS TO ADD SOME EXTRA OOMPH TO YOUR GARDEN SPACE

THIS ONE SEEMS OBVIOUS, BUT TRY TO WATER YOUR PLANTS REGULARLY

If you’ve taken a look at our previous water-wise post, you can see that we suggest using your grey water or excess shower water to water your plants, rather than a hosepipe or sprinkler system. Or try using spray bottles for those plants that don’t require heavy watering.

ADD COLOUR

To give your garden a fresh and updated look, simply add some pops of colour. Buy a few planters filled with colourful plants or, if you want to stick to greenery, update the pots you already have with a lick of paint or some spray paint!

CREATE DEFINED SPACES

To create order and make your garden space appear more organised, define each garden space clearly. You can use different materials, such as river stones, to separate these spaces, and label each one with t-markers.

KEEP THE PETS OUT

Now that you’ve spent time and effort updating your garden (and possibly planting some new flowers or herbs), you need to keep it all protected. Strategically place a few plastic forks within your garden area to keep your dogs (or any other pets) from sitting on or pooping on anything!

CREATE A HOMEMADE WEED KILLER

Create your own weedkiller using white wine vinegar, salt, and dish soap combined in a spritz bottle. Be careful as the solution will kill normal plants too. So, rather spray it in places like sidewalk cracks and landscape borders where only weeds grow.

These simple tricks may seem a little too simple, but that’s the whole point. Pop into Household Plastics, pick up all your bits and pieces, and spend the afternoon getting creative in your garden.
